Ben Uribe
Educator in Hemet, SJUSD Board Member
In 1984, the Uribe family moved from Riverside to San Jacinto and Ben enrolled at Hyatt Elementary as a fourth grader. He had struggled academically before, but the caring staff at Hyatt created an environment where he could finally thrive, earning straight A's on his report card for the first time. That turning point planted the seed for a life dedicated to education.
Today Ben is a fifth grade teacher and high school baseball coach, and a proud 1993 graduate of San Jacinto High School. He was elected to the SJUSD Board of Education in 2024. Education is a family affair. His wife Lashawn teaches first grade at Bautista Creek, and their children Benjamin and Olivia are both in college. When he's not in the classroom or at a board meeting, you'll find him cheering on the Dodgers or out on the golf course.
Ben believes public education should be a democratically governed public good, shaped by the students, families, and educators who experience it every day. He champions equity over competition, focusing on closing achievement gaps and strengthening the public schools that serve all children. For him, the people closest to a problem should help design the solution, and that starts right here in San Jacinto.
